Primary Health Organisation Compass Health’s vision is “Working together towards healthy and flourishing communities”. To help achieve its vision Compass Health is forming a Community Health Council made up of individuals with expertise in community development in health, promoting initiatives, and mobilising resources toward community wellbeing.

A chairperson will lead the Health Council and will also be the community representative on the board. The council will comprise of two representatives each from the Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Wairarapa areas and one each from the Māori and Pacific health committees.

The health council will contribute to community wellbeing by supporting Compass Health to better understand local health related needs and to help put in place local solutions.

Communities can communicate health issues and challenges specific to their communities to Compass through their representatives.

Gordon Strachan, Compass Health board member sees the health council as a way of incorporating the community voice into the services Compass delivers. Gordon says, “This is an opportunity where the Health Council can act as the conduit between the board and the community”.
