Charges
The services provided by the Wellington Sexual Health Service (WSHS) and its outreach sites are free of charge to all individuals. Most medications are also provided free of charge.
Many community GPs, student health services and youth services in the Wellington, Hutt, Kapiti and Wairarapa areas are funded to provide free sexual health services to select groups or individuals. These doctors and nurses attend trainings in sexual health, provided by the specialist service and keep up to date on the diagnosis and treatment of routine STIs.
To find a GP who provides free STI services, call your GP's office or Sexual Health to find a local GP who is registered to provide free sexual health services.

Service History
In other health districts throughout the country, such specialist services are delivered by secondary care services, usually being located within hospitals. In the 1990s, the Capital & Coast District Health Board devolved the delivery of this service into a community-based setting. Compass Health has been responsible for running this clinic since this time.
From this time, the service was co-located with Wellington's After Hours Accident and Medical Service on Adelaide Road. In 2010, the service moved to its current premises on Cuba Street, where it is now co-located with other primary care services delivered through Compass Health and the region's PHOs.

Referral Expectations
-
You can be seen by the Wellington Sexual Health Service (WSHS) with or without a referral from your General Practitioner (GP)
-
If you have been referred to WSHS, we need your GP, or referring clinician, to fax us a letter prior to booking your appointment
-
The information from your referrer will enable us to ensure that you are booked with the clinician best able to address your problem
-
We will contact you either by phone or letter to arrange your appointment once we have all of the information we need
-
If you have painful symptoms and think that you need to be seen, contact the clinic on Freephone 0800 188 881, between 9.00am and 10:30am and ask to speak to the triage nurse.
