Great results in Smoking Status project
Across the region there was a big push late November and through December to improve Smoking Status reporting on our patient data. This involved an experiment with a Call Centre response and also a big effort practice based. Below are the figures from IT for ‘Has Smoking Status Ever'.
We were targeting 70% and result for PPP data lifted is:

75% for Central PHO

76% for CPHCN
-
78% for Wairarapa PHO
That is a great result and now onto the next step of offering Smokers quit advice and cessation services.

Fantastic coverage in Retinal Screening
Attached in the Related Documents section are two reports prepared for the Business case discussion in CCDHB, about both the Podiatry and Retinal Screening services. The reports are a credit to both the staff providing the service and also the back room support and data collection that allows such reporting. Both of these services have operated in CCDHB for 10 years or so and now operate also in MidCentral and Wairarapa. There was some comparative data sourced and it is great to see how both these services shape up.
The coverage achieved for eye screening in CCDHB is an impressive just over 90% compared to 72% in the English Screening service.

Saving limbs through our Podiatry Service
The ultimate outcome measure for a successful Diabetes Management program and Podiatry service is saving amputation of limbs. The graph below if a fantastic result in the CCDHB area.
We were encouraged the first year of the service in 2002 when the rate dropped significantly but what has continued since is a credit to all the diabetes services so this is a great positive start to the year.
